I looked at an article stating that repeat expansions were reduced in flies models of C9orf72 by activation of the insulin/IGF signalling.
Repeat expansion within the C9orf72 gene are the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
A fly is very different from a great ape, such as us humans. It even does not have the same biological pathways to process insulin. In flies there is a common pathway to process insulin and IGF.
It is surprising that neuroscientists even use invertebrates at all in their ALS experiments.
I guess it is a question of budget, flies are cheap, any comment or suggestion?
